When hiring a photobooth for a corporate event or brand activation, photo quality is one of the most important factors to evaluate — and one of the most commonly overlooked. This guide explains what separates a professional photobooth from a poor one, and what to ask before you book.
High quality photos are special. Chances are you have one or two photo strips pinned to your fridge at home or on your desk at work. We have tens of photo strips from different photobooths around the world hanging in our office – but we are a special case. Every time we see a photobooth we don’t think twice, we take photos.
Not all of those photo strips make it onto our wall though. Some end up in a drawer with a mental “poor quality” label. The difference between a photo strip worth keeping and one that gets thrown away comes down to the equipment, the lighting, and the expertise of the photobooth operator.
In today’s world there is really no reason for photobooth photos to be blurry, out of focus, or poorly lit. Yet it happens more often than it should. The most common quality issues are:
For a private party, a mediocre photo might be forgiven. For a corporate event or brand activation, poor quality photos reflect directly on your brand. Every photo that leaves your event with your logo on it is a piece of branded content – it should look the part.
Photos from a professional photobooth should be comparable in quality to photos taken in a photography studio. Sharp focus, accurate colours, well-balanced lighting, and clean consistent borders on every print.
At Smilen.nl we use professional cameras and studio-grade lighting equipment specifically to ensure that every photo – whether printed on the spot or shared digitally – meets a standard your guests and your brand can be proud of. We print on professional photo paper using dye-sublimation printers, which produce results that are significantly sharper and more colour-accurate than standard inkjet prints.
Before hiring any photobooth company for your event, always ask for sample photos from previous events. A photobooth company that values the quality of their work will provide photo strips that are not only fun but that could genuinely be framed. That is the best way to ensure that the photos from your event become lasting keepsakes rather than ending up in a drawer.
If a company is reluctant to share samples, or if the samples they share look flat, blurry, or poorly lit – keep looking.
For corporate events, brand activations, and trade shows, photo quality carries additional weight. Every photo taken at your branded photobooth will feature your company logo and visual identity. Those photos get shared on LinkedIn, Instagram, and WhatsApp — often by employees, clients, and event attendees with significant professional networks.
A sharp, well-lit, beautifully printed photo says something positive about your brand. A blurry, poorly printed one says something too — just not what you want.
